About Yuki Saeki-Marlowe

Yuki Saeki-Marlowe is the editor-in-chief of whichapp.report and the architect of the decision-tree publishing format the site uses. She owns the publication’s voice, which is pragmatic, structured, modestly nerdy, and deliberately allergic to the listicle conventions that dominate the consumer-app review category. If a whichapp.report article reads like a Stack Overflow answer crossed with a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book, Yuki is most of the reason.

She came to app criticism through a roundabout path. After completing her MS in Human-Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon in 2015, Yuki spent eight years as a product designer — first at Slack (2015-2019), where she shipped the channel-search redesign and the slash-command system; then briefly at Notion (2020); then at Linear (2020-2023), where she led the design of the keyboard-first interaction model that has since become the template for modern productivity apps. By the time she left Linear in late 2024, she had concluded that the consumer-app category was dominated by two failure modes: apps that solved no problem the user actually had, and review publications that ranked apps by commission rate.

In September 2025 she founded whichapp.report with a single editorial premise: every article should answer the question “which app should I use?” in the same structure the user actually deliberates — conditionally, by use case, with explicit dis-recommendations attached. The result is the decision-tree format that defines the publication.

Credentials in detail

Editorial focus

Yuki edits and signs off on every decision tree before publication. She owns the publication’s voice and its relationship with reader feedback. She personally writes the cross-vertical decision trees that span product categories (e.g., the Apple Watch health-app guide). She does not accept contract work from any app developer and maintains no affiliate accounts.

Conflicts of interest

Yuki has no current financial relationships with any app developer reviewed on this site. She holds vested equity in Slack (Salesforce, ticker CRM) from her 2015-2019 tenure that she has disclosed to the publication’s editorial board. She holds no Linear or Notion equity. She does not accept review-unit hardware or software in exchange for coverage angles.
